Склеротерапия

What is sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a safe and minimally invasive procedure for varicose and spider veins treatment. A mild treating solution is injected into the vein. The walls of the vein are irritated, causing the vein to shrink in size until it eventually disappears.

Untreated varicose veins may be a significant medical issue. They may increase in size, becoming longer and more difficult to treat. If you suffer from swollen legs, experience easy bruising, skin changes or pain around veins you should discuss these concerns with your doctor and check if your insurance company provides coverage in this case.

Procedure

Prior to the treatment, a consultation is required. You will discuss with a doctor the details of the procedure and the results you desire. You will have your “before and after” photos taken (for medical records only).

The procedure itself takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes. During the treatment the doctor uses a very thin needle. The number of veins injected in one session varies, depending on the size, number and location of the veins treated. The treatment can cause mild discomfort and requires follow-up instructions.

After the procedure, the leg is cleaned and a compression stocking should be used for several days. All regular activities can be resumed immediately. Aerobics and vigorous exercises are not permitted for the next 7 days. You must avoid saunas, hot baths and direct sunlight during the first 48 hours.

Small spider veins may disappear after 3 to 6 weeks when larger veins may take longer. Sclerotherapy is a very effective and safe for most patients. Several sessions may be required to achieve complete elimination of varicose and spider veins.
